5s Area Sign5S

Identification Labels Used with 5S

Fundamental to 5S is the identification of work areas, equipment, tools and supplies. This is most easily, effectively accomplished through the use of labels and signs.

Tools On Shadow BoardThe example to the left shows a tool board with "shadows" made in the shape and size of each tool. DuraLabel vinyl tape was used to make the shadows and the labels. Although it may not have been needed in this specific facility, an improvement that could be made in the what is shown here is to have all of the tools color coded. A yellow band on the handle of each tool would immediately show that it belonged on the "Waste Water Tools" board.

Identification labels are used to identify things as large as an entire building, and as small as CAT-5 cable.

Here is a list of a few examples where identification labels are used:

  • Pipe Markers
  • Name Plates (to identify offices)
  • Aisle Markers
  • Warehouse Shelves
  • Heavy Equipment
  • Wires & Conduit
  • Vehicles
  • Machinery
  • Tools
  • ... many other applications

Identification Labels - Pump IdentificationThanks to bright, color-coded labels the work area is guaranteed to be a safer, easier to understand, and more efficient space. Labels and signs made by a Duralabel PRO can rapidly organize any work space into a leaner and more efficient environment. Because of the wide range of supplies available for the Duralabel PRO, it ensures 5s color standards are met.
