5S Labels & Signs

Maintenance and Operating Information

Maintenance and operating information should be clearly available at the point of need.

Fire Pump Starting InstructionsTo get 5S-savvy, get your facility cleaned up, and then maintain that cleanliness through regular inspections and preventive maintenance. Signs and labels are used to provide checklists and procedures that need to be followed at the beginning or end of a shift, or when a machine is started or shut down, or when there are tasks that need to be done periodically (weekly, monthly, etc.).

Information posted at the point of need ensures workers have the information they need, when they need it.

Examples of this type of information include:

  • Machine startup procedures
  • Machine shutdown procedures
  • Security procedures
  • Daily equipment inspections
  • Beginning of shift safety inspections
  • Daily preventive maintenance
  • Safety information
  • Startup sequences
  • Daily schedule
  • Lockout / Tagout information
